Gail Hansen

Artist Biography

Gail Hansen is a Newton and Wellesley based printmaker and book maker. She was a ceramics artist for more than 20 years at Mudville in Somerville before discovering printmaking and artists books. She studied various printmaking techniques at Bonnie Mineo’s studio in Boston, Zea Mays Printing in Northampton and Shepherd and Maudesleigh in West Newton and book making t Mass Art.

Since 2011 she has been participating in exhibits at local art associations and galleries, winning numerous awards. Her work was selected for the 2020/2021 season of the traveling newton FenceArt series and in 2022 for the Newton Community Bust Stop Art. She is a studio member of Shepherd and Maudesleigh Printmaking Studio, the Monotype Guild of New England, Newton and Needham Open Studios and Newton, Needham and Dedham Art Associations.

I first noticed art at age 11 when I saw an Andy Warhol Soup Can in a weekly magazine. I have been chasing bright colors ever since. When I discovered silkscreen printing at Shepherd and Maudesleigh in 2019, I knew I finally found my perfect medium.
