Artist Statement
For several years I was captivated by encaustic painting. I created a series of paintings depicting the “industrial geometry” of Fenway Park. This work features encaustic pigments, oil paint & sticks, pastels, grease pencils, India ink and layered translucent papers resulting in a luminous “painterly” surface. Out of a desire to work larger, I have embarked on explorations of acrylic, oil, and mixed-media on canvas. Inspirations include Kandinsky’s vibrant melodic color palette and buoyant use of shape. Most recently, to hone my observation skills, I have been studying portrait painting. I am looking forward to wherever this journey leads.
Debbie is a past board member of the Council for Art Education. She is a current member of the Newton Art Association and has exhibited annually in Newton Open Studios. Juried group shows include: Woodruff’s Gallery, Mashpee, MA, the New Art Center, NEW TV, Newton City Hall, and the Fence Art Project.
