What started as a small printmaking studio on Dunstan Street has slowly grown into a 11,500 sq ft studio that covers a wide range of processes!
Our studio provides most of what an artist needs including all clean up supplies. Flat files drawers and cubbies are also provided to members. Artists are responsible for their paper, plates, and ink.

The printshop:
The printshop includes two dedicated rooms – The Classroom and The Main Print Room. Each room has 2 etching presses and a large amount of glasstop tables, perfect for inking up. Both spaces can support relief, intaglio, monotype, collagraph, and alternative lithographic methods like pronto plate. When the classroom is not reserved, it is available for members to use.

Since our expansion in 2024 – we now have a dedicated space to the art of silkscreen – so it’s everything you could need, all in one big room.
- 2 exposure units: the largest can fit 30″ x 40″ screens
- 2 washout booths with power washers & backlights
- Includes chemistry for reclaiming screens
- 6 hinge-clamp tables
- each includes mylar for registration
- Screens available for rent ($35/month) in various sizes & mesh counts
- Screen storage rack for members screens

- Standard & Large Format Epson printers for high-quality printing transparencies on site
- 11′ Fabric Table for printing textiles & yardage

- A large Darkroom for coating screens which includes;

- We use a flocculation system created by Zea Mays Printmaking (Florence, MA) – where we collect & process screenprint wastewater to prevent acrylic particles from entering our drains.

- This is a new technique to the studio! Learn to silkscreen onto glass – which then gets fired so your imagery is fused onto the glass.
& Photogravure (The Tech Lab):
Under the guidance of Jon Cone of Cone Editions, and the endless dedication from Studio Member & Photogravure Instructor Ralph Robinson we have taken Direct-To-Plate Photopolymer Photogravure Plate making & printing to the next level.

- The studio offers a Ready-to-Print-Plate service where you can have plates printed, exposed, washed-out, and trimmed so you receive them ready-to-go!
- Specialized Epson Printer with Piezography inks installed for high quality Direct-To-Plate Printing

- Designated hair-dryers & thermometers for precise developing

We have been developing our Papermaking Studio by collaborating with Papermaker Akemi Martin who has taught and worked in Papermaking at Pace Paper, Cooper Union, and Boston University. We have built the studio to become a fully functioning teaching & working space, with a specialized Papermaking Membership in the works for local papermakers needing a studio.

& Book Arts
The Book Arts Workroom at Shepherd & Maudsleigh Studio is a space where artists & printmakers can explore the book form within their practice, as well as a space for professional bookbinders to come and work in a community setting. The Book Arts Workroom is excited to support artists & printmakers who are interested in the ways that the book structure and related structures lend themselves to sculptural and tactile experiences.

Print Services
- Private Printmaking instruction for beginners (or for those who need a refresher) is available at $60/hr.
- We offer proofing and editioning for personal projects. Pricing is based on project parameters.
- Our 11′ Fabric table is available to rent for large fabric printing or yardage projects. The Fabric table can be rented for $125 a day.
- Our Classroom is available to rent for projects or editioning purposes for $250/day.
