Artist Statement
I strive to capture the layers of the human spirit and how our relationships are reflected in treasured objects, daily rituals and patinated surfaces. I seek to channel the energetic grace of nature, honoring how it moves us forward with its intricate patterns and plans. I work intuitively starting with the lens of my camera. Textures, patterns, and forms that excite me find their way into woodblock printmaking, screen printing and cyanotype solar printing. I play and experiment, often combining mediums, building layers that push order to the very edge of chaos. I work and rework, holding onto what thrills and finding new possibilities for what doesn’t, an analogy to how I live life. There is a resilient energy in my work, both pictorial and process driven, that reflects my eternal optimism, forever seeking the light.
Artist Biography
My art has been informed by a highly varied design career spanning advertising, fashion, craft, graphics, web and restaurant design. This has lead me to bold, graphic imagery with a penchant for textile patterns and richly, layered compositions. My work has been exhibited in juried group shows around New England including the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, Rhode Island Water Color Society, Castle Hill @ Truro Center for the Arts, Gallery Twist and Art Fluent’s online gallery. I have studied printmaking at the Decordova Museum School, Maud Morgan, MFA, Castle Hill, Zea Mayes, and Shepherd Maudsleigh, where my studio is currently located in West Newton. I am also a member of Boston Printmakers, USEA and Concord Art.
